TESTIMONIES

"Our son had been taking lessons for a few years before we found Kate, and boy do we wish we had been using her as a teacher since the beginning!  He has grown as fast in 4 months as he grew in two years with his other teachers.  Kate seems to go above and beyond to teach our son not only music, but theory and technique.  She is patient and kind, mixing in a variety of pieces to keep his interest going.  Our son looks forward to his lessons and is happy to practice every day so he can be ready to learn something new!

"Almost three months ago, I decided to work on an item on my bucket list - learn to play guitar. I knew I'd need some help getting started and Keight came highly recommended as a teacher. She has been fantastic and I'm very happy with my progress in such a short time. Each session is fun and I find myself looking forward to practicing and improving my playing even more. Thanks so much, Keight!"

"I get to hear Keight (kate) teach from time to time because she teaches some at my recording studio.  And I've noticed that she is very good with all her students.  They all like her very much and I learn a few things just listening.   I've had friends that have taken vocal lessons from her and they all tell me how much they enjoyed it and will be back.  Her vocal warm-up exercises are particularly fun and work well.   I highly recommend Keight for music lessons".........

I’ve recently started singing again and knew I needed help improving my breath control and vocal range.  I found Keight from Voice the Music, and so far so great.  Keight is incredibly skilled and knowledgeable about the voice.  Her experience has helped me through many a vocal issue.  She always goes above and beyond supporting me, whether it’s going to my performances, helping me with vocal parts on new music, finding a good key, doing scales that work on specific issues or finding ways to sing challenging notes. Keight always manages to apply the right solution to any vocal issue I may have.  My voice is a lot stronger and I’ve gotten many compliments on my performances since taking lessons with Keight.  I highly recommend her services to any and all who want to learn and excel at singing.”

With other teachers, I have never had fun or been proud of playing guitar, but taking lessons with Keight makes me want to play - and I always want to come back.

My thoughts on Voice the Music, the teaching studio of Keight .
First off ,I have known Keight for quite a few years and though our times together are on the short side, I must say she is one of the most pleasant and kind people you will know on the Grand Strand. What does this have to do with music instruction you might ask? Well, over the course of my piano tuning career I have made the observation that students who are with a kind, fun and caring teacher they generally do better and most of all, stick with their instrument. I saw my first recital that Keight puts on regularly a couple of months ago . I really enjoyed it and was very impressed with how well each student performed. The singing was on pitch and the phrasing full of soul and musicality. The playing of guitars and piano all came off very natural. The age range was fairly vast and the thing I took most from the recital was the students (as was the audience ) were really enjoying themselves and dedicated to doing their best. Also, there was no stage fright noticeable. So just on that recital alone, it would be easy to recommend Voice the Music teaching studio; I have before this recital and will continue to do so. Now Keight can teach a lot of things well. The last time I was at her home tuning her piano, she started playing a good deal of Bach after I was done, mentioning a student who only wants to play Bach. So obviously this showed how versatile she is as a musician and teacher. Songwriting, singing, guitar, piano, performing, recording are all the subjects I am aware of her teaching(there is probably some more I don't know of:) Again, bringing the joy of learning and playing music to a student is really the best thing a teacher can do,especially to a beginner. So as the fall season is here, do your best to get in touch with Keight to start lessons.--
 All the best,

"I am a 67 year old male who has always been interested in learning to play a musical instrument. But, as the years passed by I had practically given up on this idea.
Then, just recently (July,2015) in search of a guitar teacher that may be able too sanely teach someone my age, I stumbled upon Keight's website. Keight is an old friend, an accomplished musician and just a wonderful person. I looked no further. I knew if anyone could teach me,  she could.
So, I quickly got a lesson with her.
As I mentioned before, I know Keight is a master musician, but as a former public school teacher I evaluated her teaching ability during the first few lessons. I knew one could be a master of a given subject but not be able to impart this knowledge to others. I quickly saw that Keight can perform and TEACH!
She is a wonderful teacher: she determines the student's level of competence and provides appropriate instruction and materials to foster quick learning.
She offers her masterful teaching skills with patience and always proceeds at the perfect pace allowing mastery before moving on.
For sure her best asset is her care for her students and their progress.
If you are looking for the best give Keight a call. You will love her both as a teacher and a person
Oh, by the way, I have been amazed at what I have already learned in just 4 lessons and look forward to accomplishing my goals as we proceed."

"Hi, Keight,
Just wanted to thank you for teaching the girls music history.  I REALLY appreciate it!  I have been pushing art history on them for awhile, but I know nothing about music.  My goal in life as a parent is for my kids to NOT be intimidated by this type of knowledge -- like I am with music, sports etc....  I am pushing for Renaissance women.
One of my proudest moments was when we took them to the Uffizi in Florence, Italy, and Amy (age 10 at the time) explained several Renaissance paintings to my husband based on her knowledge of the Bible.  She could tell by looking at the scenes exactly who was in the paintings and what they were doing.  Even though we are not remotely Catholic, I like to think of their religious education as learning about and understanding another culture and appreciating how it has fit into history (i.e. art).
Anyway, thank you again for filling their little heads with nuggets of knowledge that they can access later in life.
The girls really enjoy learning with you. :)  Thanks for making music fun for them."

" I've been around the block when it comes to singing. I've had several voice lessons and have been in several Musicals, and I've always had a decent singing voice. However with a looming national audition I needed to take my singing to the next level. Enter Keight. I didn't know much about Keight coming into my first lesson, only what I read from testimonials, but from the very first lesson I noticed an improvement in my voice. Thanks to her set up, I was really able to hear what my voice sounded like, rather than what it sounded in my head (if that makes any sense.) This is the first time in a few years that I really feel confident in my voice, not just to get by but to excel. While I'll have to wait a few months to really see how the fruit of our labor grows, even if the audition doesn't work out for me, I know that all the work this summer just made me a better singer for the next one." -

"Keight is a very talented and versatile musician. I learned works by Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart while studying the piano with Keight. My private lessons with her were valuable and contributed to much of my success today."

".. You have taught our daughter so much and you are a wonderful voice coach!...Thanks again for working with her. You are the first professional teacher she has had and you have set the bar high."

"I have been to many voice teachers over the past few years and none of them have been as wonderful as Miss Keight. As soon as I started taking from her I noticed an immediate change in my vocal range. I learned how to control my breath and that really helped me reach higher notes. And if her excellent vocal teaching wasn't enough, she is a phenomenal guitar teacher. I learned more chords and songs from her in 6 months than I did in years with previous teachers. The songs we practiced with were ones I really enjoyed and every week I looked forward to my lessons with her. Thank you so much Miss Keight!"

"Dear Miss. Keight!

"Hey there Keight,

I just wanted to thank you for a very fun and enjoyable experience in your voice workshop. Your understanding of the mechanics of breath, breath control and vocal
warm-ups are really going to come in handy in my upcoming performances.
Your hand outs given during the class are going to be extremely useful and I really appreciate you sharing them. I wish you great success in all your future endeavors.
Thanks again! "

"Praise for Keight. My voice has always cracked when singing and the only place I sing is in Church. A friend of mine used to cover my mouth because it sounded so bad. Keight in a very short time taught me how to sing without my voice cracking or going off time and key. Her ability to individualize the training to help someone like me is amazing. If I was younger you just never know I could be the next somebody!!"

* Julie London (want-a-be)

"I am so pleased with the progress my son Jamie Lyndblade made working with Keight.

He started guitar lessons with her about six weeks ago knowing nothing about how to play. He now plays several dozen chords and has begun learning bar chords. He is motivated now and spends a lot of time finding music he can play along to. Keight provides all the practice exercises and a CD to use between lessons. She has taught him so much in such a small space of time, and he loves to play! Practice is not a dirty word for him; he picks the guitar up and plays all day long when he can. I am so appreciative to Keight for tapping into his musical mind, which I knew was there and just needed the proper direction. Keight provides gentle direction in a soothing environment that helps children focus on their musical learning. I would recommend her to anyone searching for a guitar/vocal teacher; look no further, your search is over!"
*Kara Harniman

"Keight is a wonderful sensitive teacher.

It is not only about singing but about my increased
confidence in communication and engagement in life
that really 'sings out'. Thank you Keight for a new
singing life and the joy of discovering my voice."
*Heidi McGovern-  Feldenkrais Practitioner

"Without hesitation we would highly recommend anyone that is looking to find an extremely competent voice teacher, and one that is also just a nice person, to contact Keight and use her as their voice instructor.  We feel you will be more than satisfied just as we were. "

“Keight is a great vocal coach who uses techniques that make singing easy to understand and fun. She uses a wide range of exercises to allow each singer to reach their full potential. Keight creates a friendly and free environment to make you feel comfortable in order to allow you to step outside of your comfort zone and to explore a new creative side. She pushes you to be the best that you can be. She acts as a coach and a friend. Keight will teach you the steps to becoming a better singer and she will be cheering you along the whole way. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to learn the techniques of singing.”

"Miss Keight is the best teacher."

*Connor Nicole Singleton

"It's the most wonderful thing that I got in touch with Keight. My daughter Connor has

learned a lot from her in both guitar and voice- and now piano. Keight helped her put her first band together. She is very well organized."
* Mrs. Singleton

I have always been very passionate about music and instruments. I became familiar with the violin in elementary school and continued playing in middle and high school. I had always wanted to play piano, so in high school I took my first piano class. It was simple to figure out because it was level one. I loved playing the piano and wanted to advance into a higher level the next year. When I realized that the new level was becoming more complicated, and that my new teacher was more strict, I had felt like I should take a different class because piano was too hard and I would not be able to figure it out like I did the year before. My mom decided to get me lessons with Ms. Keight, and immediately my performance improved and I loved piano again because i realized how it wasn’t as hard as I thought. Ms. Keight was so patient with me, no matter how much I struggled with a song. She let me practice writing the notes on the songs I was learning and I quickly became more familiar with the notes and could write them down faster each time and now it is so easy for me to recognize the notes and I don’t have to write all of them down. She walked me through each song one hand at a time, and then I slowly played both hands together and over the short time we had together in that day, I could play the song almost perfectly, notes and speed accurately. Every lesson I took with her I became a stronger player and my grades in my piano class increased a lot. She always was willing to help with anything I was struggling with and she made me feel more confident in myself. The most helpful thing that she did for me was that she would take strategies or habits that I had learned or taught myself, and she would help me use those habits in a way that would help me become a stronger player and develop more rather than change them and make me do something different. Other teachers of mine would always try and change my habits or make me do something I had always done, different and it often caused me to feel frustrated, but she would always take the time to teach me tricks and give me tools that would help me. I can now play songs independently, just by doing the thing she taught me, and I am very grateful for that and I would recommend her to anyone who wanted to learn the piano.
